Some snippets of useful information
Tea / coffee etc are always available in the gallery throughout your work shops
and breaks are taken as and when it suits.
Students are welcome to bring packed lunches (a micro is available for heating
soup etc) there is also a small ‘bistro’ next door to the gallery and the
heritage museum tea shop with delicious home made food five minutes walk from
The Burnside.
The Gallery is situated in the main Village and the ferry terminal is sited at
the other end of the main street upon which are two banks, many small shops and
the chocolate factory!
The walk from Ferry port to gallery is around ten minutes, however the buses to
all parts of the island leave from the pier when the ferry arrives and any
‘North end’ or ‘West coast bus ‘ will pass by the gallery…..just ask the driver
for
The
Burnside
or Auchrannie Rd.
The largest hotel on the Island is The Auchrannie which is sited up the
road from the gallery and boasts a time share complex, spa hotel and country
house hotel.
The Auchrannie also has two swimming pools, indoor and outdoor sports facilities
Formal and informal eateries, a small shopping mall and aromatherapy by the ton!
Arran has many golf courses including a twelve hole course which is much
enjoyed, there is an adventure company who offer a wide range of sporting
activities, a brewery. a distillery, the visitor centre with off road vehicles,
helicopter trips, a pottery and antique shop etc. These are just a few of the
attractions the Island has to offer the non-participating partner or children of
any student taking part in a
Burnside

A
wide range of accommodation is available from five star luxury to self catering
caravans, youth hostel to Auchrannie Spa.
