My paintings are primarily seascapes. The continual interchange of the elements - rock,
sand, sea, weather and above all light, is their subject matter. They are
painted in oils on unprimed board.
I try to maintain a balance between subject and matter and the effects of
paint so that both may be simultaneously read and enjoyed. In a similar
manner, the layers of paint create an illusion of space, depth and
distance as well as surface pattern. The paint is applied thinly -
brushstrokes, drips, splashes converging and amalgamating to create
movement and atmosphere to suggest transience and the ever-shifting
relationship of sea and land. |
